Maureen Mayhew, MD
Maureen Mayhew is a Vancouver-based public-health physician with a focus on health public policy. She first visited Afghanistan in 2000, during the Taliban regime. She has since returned three times, spending a total of almost three years in the country. Her first two visits were to Western Afghanistan with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and involved identifying health priorities and establishing maternal and child health clinics in rural areas. The last two visits were based in Kabul, with travel to other provinces, where she worked with Johns Hopkins University in health-care research and health-policy development. During the past several years, she has visited fifty-three countries and participated in emergency relief efforts in Asia and Africa.
